Show Nettie, Page 54 Primary day and tell her about our conversation." Nettie nodded and smiled and returned to Mama who led them all home, smiling and nodding at neighbors along the way. Being postmaster's wife had given Margaret the edge in getting to know the people of Lovell. There were few she did not know by name already. At dinner that night Mama lectured the family. "Nettie received a call from the Bishop today to serve as assistant to Sis. Carlton in Primary." "That's great, Nettie," Robert said, between mouthsful of food. Will echoed Robert, then returned to his dinner, too. Papa smiled warmly at Nettie and she answered with a smile as warm as his own. "I didn't think I could do it, Papa, but Mama said I should never say no to the Bishop," Nettie spoke up. "Mama is right, Nettie," Papa replied. Mama continued, "A bishop is inspired to call us to positions. You must never doubt his inspiration by refusing a position. You may feel inadequate, but then you must rely on the Lord to make you equal to the job." The lecture didn't end there. Mama continued to instruct her children about using their talents to further the Lord's work. The children listened quietly and Papa nodded his agreement frequently. Talents were something that Nettie was just discovering she had. Music appealed to her and her voice was strong and sweet in singing the hymns on Sunday and the children's songs at Primary. |
