He was dressed in long boots, light-colored pants, a dark shirt, and light neckerchief. The long, nearly white hair, mustache and goatee were neatly groomed and every hair seemed to know and stay in its place. He strode to the wagon. Nettie turned her gaze from the street and her blue eyes met the Colonel's warm brown ones. His face registered his astonishment as Nettie announced fearlessly, "I've come for that job you promised, Colonel." |
