Important for its comments about the "Mormon road" they discovered, which was a part of the White Mountain trail of the previous year. This "Report" and accompanying map made it possible to possitively identify a segment of the trail between Antelope Springs and Steptoe Valley a distance of over one hundred miles. Simpson also included an extensive introduction with a valuable summary of previous exploration in the Great Basin, as well as notes on the Mormon settlements, Indians, wildlife, and vegetation.
