Show 225 packaged up some of the sticky stuff and eventually carried i t to Provo where he offered it to a local potter named Roberts. The clay was tested and found to be of a "most excellent quality for potter' s ware." As Colonel Dame's party groped their way through these subterranean passages they were awed by the natural beauty they beheld in the flickering lights of their candles. Again, the words of the hymn "For the Strength of the Hills We Bless Thee" were impressed upon t h e i r minds. As on Altar Peak the verse seemed to have an uncanny resemblance to their present circumstances. In one of tbe largest rooms the brethren assembled and sang t h i s hymn, their voices echoing down the halls of the eery cathedral. For the dark resounding caverns Where thy s t i l l small voice is heard; For the strong pines of the forest That by thy breath are stirred; For the storms on whose free pinions Thy s p i r i t walks abroad. For the strength of the h i l l s we bless Thee, Our God, our fathers' God. The banner of the chieftan, Far, far below us waves: The war-horse of the spearman Can not reach our lofty caves Thy dark clouds wrap the threshhold Of freedom's l a s t abode. For the strength of the h i l l s we bless Thee, Our God, our fathers' God. (Italics mine.) |
