Description (1876) The twenty-second legislature in 1876 authorized compilation of all statutes then in force. The poorly organized compilations of 1855, 1866 and 1870 finally gave way to a modernized codification topically arranged by broad subject titles, in some cases, more specific chapters within titles, and numbered sections. Additionally, each section throughout the compilation is given a separate consecutive number. Reference is made to these in a content summary preceding each title or section. A much more thorough index is provided. No separate session law volume was published for 1876.

Description COMPILED LAWS OF UTAH. • 185 sion; and shall be known by the name and style of " The Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Society," and shall have power to sue and be sued, defend and be defended in all courts of law or equity; and may have a seal which they may use and alter at pleasure. (427.) Sec. 4. Said society have power to make, es-May make by-tablish and carry out all needful by-laws, not conflicting with the Constitution of the United States and the laws of this Territory ; and to do and perform all acts necessary for the proper exercise of the powers herein conferred, and for promoting the objects contemplated in this act. (429.) Sec. 6.
