Description (1876) The twenty-second legislature in 1876 authorized compilation of all statutes then in force. The poorly organized compilations of 1855, 1866 and 1870 finally gave way to a modernized codification topically arranged by broad subject titles, in some cases, more specific chapters within titles, and numbered sections. Additionally, each section throughout the compilation is given a separate consecutive number. Reference is made to these in a content summary preceding each title or section. A much more thorough index is provided. No separate session law volume was published for 1876.

Description 168 COMPILED LAWS OF UTAH. Penalty for obstructing by camping-. Penalty for taking toll without authority. (370.) Sec. 2. Any proprietor, agent, wagon master or teamster, in charge of any train, wagon or wagons, obstructing the travel on any public road or thoroughfare by camping therein or otherwise unnecessarily causing delay, shall be liable to a fine of not more than one hundred dollars, and be liable for all damages and costs at the discretion of the court having jurisdiction. (371.) Sec. 3. Any person collecting toll upon any road or public thoroughfare, without authority of law, shall be liable for all damages sustained by any person, and shall be liable to a fine of not more than one hundred dollars. Kelation to passing of teams. Same. Penalty for violation. An Act regulating the passing and meeting of teams on the public highways. [Approved March 3,1852.] (372.) Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the Governor and Legislative Assembly of the Territory of Utah: That whenever it is necessary for a fast traveling team to pass a slower one, it shall be the duty of the teamster of the slow team to give the other a convenient opportunity to do so, if it can be done without endangering his own. (373.) Sec. 2. Whenever teams of any kind meet, each shall turn to the right, so as to give the other half of the traveled part of the road, whenever it can be done with safety. (374.) Sec. 3. Any person neglecting to conform to the provisions of this act shall be liable to pay all damage accruing therefrom, and be fined not exceeding one hundred dollars. water sect bridged. Be it enacted by the Governor and Leg- islative Assembly of the Territory of Utah; That if any person or persons shall have taken or may hereafter take water out of the natural stream or sect where it is wont to flow, and conduct the same or any part thereof across any public highway or road by means of a ditch or sect, any person or persons so conducting water shall be required to niake or cause to be made a good and sufficient culvert, or gravel ford, or bridge over such ditch or sect, and kept the same in repair where the same crosses any such
