Show AN EPISTLE IS WRITTEN--A TRACT IS BORN Elder John Morgan completed his first mission in the Southern States and started west via the railroad with approximately ninety converts on November 20, 1877 o In the following spring, he was again called by the First Presidency to return to the South and moTe completely organize the Southern States Mission and to establish Mission Headquarters at Nashville, Tennesseeo He arrived in Nashville on March 31, 1878, and in a few days proceeded south into Northern Georgia and Alabama where he visited among the Saintso On April 12, 1878, he journalized as follows: "I feel well in getting to my former field of labor and I trust that the Spirit of God will enlighten my mind so I may be able to do much goodo " On April 16, 1878, with a number of the Saints, he went to some nearby woods and dedicated a beautiful spot as a sacred place of prayero There was much rejoicing among the Saints on the return of Elder Morgan to their midsto _ They had missed the inspiration of his presence and especially his teachings which had motivated their conversion to the Gospel. Realizing that he could not, of necessity, remain with them long as his field of labor was large, they urged that he reduce to writing the great Gospel truths concerning the plan of salvation which he had so convincingly taught them in his sermons, to the end that in his absence, they might study and meditate upon ito Having spent about six weeks in preaching to the people, he returned to Hayward Valley in North Georgia on June I, 1878.
