Transcript (typescript, 31 pages) of four interviews with Yasuko K. Yasuda, a Japanese-American living in Utah in 1984. Mrs. Yasuda (b. 1894) recalls her childhood in Japan, her arranged marriage and subsequent move to Idaho with her husband. She also talks about the experiences of "picture brides" met on the boat from Japan and Japanese migrant workers, as well as raising her family on farms in Eureka and Orem, Utah. Included are Mrs. Yasuda's memories of living peacefully in Orem during World War II |

George arrl Toni, the l:xJys, intermarried, 1::ut the girls all married Japanese. Grarrlchildren are married to caucasians. At lily' s place, three are married. Elaine is married to Richard Cockham, a caucasian. Next son, Kim, is marrioo to a daughter whose father is a caucasian and the rrother is a Japanese. Marcy is married to a Japanese. The parents objected to their rrarriage rut the children went their own way. If everything goes well it is all right, 1::ut •••• When we were in Orem, we used to go to the canyon on picnics on SUnday - to Bridal Veil, Timpanogos. We took picnic 11..ll1Ches. Those were the best days. Now I am old, I cannot go anyplace. M.Y grandson, one of Maria' s children, is a doctor and surgeon, wife is a registered nurse. The other is an engineer. The one in Hawaii is an attorney. Lily' s one son is in real estate and the girl is a registered nurse. LK Thank you for speaking. |
