Since we were having such difficult time financially, we asked for the money. If we were well off, it does not matter who gets the money. This ring, Yasuda brought it in Salt Lake before he went to Japan. He gave it to rre when we got married. About seven or eight years ago, the stone fell off so I had it reset. This is 18K but this is 14K. This used to be quite heavy but look how thin it is. I wear it every day so. LK "When you had your children, did you go to the hospital, or did you have a midwife? . YY No, I never went to the hospital. I hired a nurse and she stayed about eleven days. I can• t understand English so. Yes, I had a midwife. LK Do you remember the midwi ves• names? YY One was Mrs Mantu, in Idaho, when George was bom. There were no Japanese nurses then. In Eureka, too, caucasian midwives. I had four children in Eureka. One was bom in Orem, Tony, the youngest boy. At that time, a lady neighbor carre to help. LK How did, when you went to Orem, did you find the place? YY Orem was a pleasant place. OUr neighbor, Mr and Mrs Elrrer and Juanita Jensen, Monnons, had two children. They came over and stayed ovemight when we moved to Orem. They lived about 20 minutes away by car. I think I was well liked by the caucasians. I like to make things and then give them away. Mitari san knows them, too, the Jensens. Mitari• s used to live in Delta. LK How did you find the particular piece of land you lived on in Orem? YY Through a Japanese friend. Up to that time when we brought the farm in Orem, we were renting a place near Juanita Jensen• s place, on a half and half basis on the crop. Then we heard about a place nearby so we asked for money from Japan and brought the farm, fruit ranch. LK What kind of expectations did you have going to Orem? YY Saneone asked us if we would like to move to Orem. They said there was a good |
