Transcript (typescript, 31 pages) of four interviews with Yasuko K. Yasuda, a Japanese-American living in Utah in 1984. Mrs. Yasuda (b. 1894) recalls her childhood in Japan, her arranged marriage and subsequent move to Idaho with her husband. She also talks about the experiences of "picture brides" met on the boat from Japan and Japanese migrant workers, as well as raising her family on farms in Eureka and Orem, Utah. Included are Mrs. Yasuda's memories of living peacefully in Orem during World War II |

Fanning or were they doing different kinds of things? yy I don't knOW if any of than worked on the fann, maybe scree did. They can't do too Imlch, you know. We hired several evacuees to pick rasberries, etc. There were arout 50 workers we hired locally l::ut the evacuees helped now and then. they are not used to such work. I think there were arout ten evacuees in Oren; others were scattered here and there. Mr Wada brought many of them. He used his own rroney to bring than. I really don • t knOW what they did, l::ut I presurce, they just didn't sit around; they llD..lSt have found work here and there - fann work and other jobs. I feel very sorry for than, due to war, they lost all their property, 11 m their houses, everything l::ut it can't be helped. The twins, even though they didn't graduate, carre l:ack to Oren as soon as the war started. They enrolled at the LDS Business College and gra-t duated. They really didn't say IIB..1Ch.. Maybe they thought there• s nothing that CXJL1 l be done. At that tine they were really interested in getting a job and look f~r-ward to working in an office. They worked hard at the office and didn't pay too Imlch attention to the war; they were resigned to the fact of war. It was their first paying job and I assl.1lle they were happy alx>ut it.
