Show BRYAN BOWERS AT SOCIAL WK AUD OCT18 Eric Henry will open Bryan Bowers Returns to Salt Lake City to a warm welcome from all lovers of acoustic music. Widely regarded as the world's foremost master of the autoharp, Bowers transforms it into a solo instrument. His warm stage presence matches a pleasant voice. In addition to performing many traditional musical and vocal tunes, expect to either rollick with laughter or to be moved to goose bumps and tears by some of his original work. He cites his earlier musical influences as numerous. Raised in Virginia, he gathered tunes from gandy dancers and field hands. While he can play many instruments, he focuses on the autoharp. His playing style brings out the best possible effect. Far beyond the standard approach to autoharp playing, which amounts basically to strumming chords, Bowers picks out both bass lines and intricate melody lines. The instrument positively sings in his hands. Bowers has numerous records on the Flying Fish label. Eric Henry Begins a Western States debut with this appearance. His beginnings in classical guitar made him realize that the formal approach to musical training did not suit him. He subsequently landed an opportunity playing guitar for a production of "Twelfth Night" and has begun a solo guitar career. His previous reviews include such statements as "a total package of voice, musicianship and song writing talent." They will perform at the U. of Utah Social Work Auditorium, October 18, 1996. 7:30PM. Tickets $10 in advance; $12 at the door. $2 off for lAMA members, $4 off for ASUU members. Seniors over 65, kids under 12 are $6.
