Realizing that physical development is as essentia l to our well being as mental development, we the UJl.dersigned students of the University of Utah, do form ourselves into an Athletic Association and adopt the following Constitution and By- Laws. ARTICLE 1. Name : This Assooiation shall be known as the University of Utah At hletic Association. ARTICLE II. Objeot: The object of this associat ion shall be to Jlromote, encourage, and supervise all ~!:t~i~o~X~~:l~::'oti~s ::b:;:~IY to establish a 8Ym- The Association shall furnish grounds , apparatus, suits or u.nlforJlls necessary to the oarr ying on of all athletic games whioh come under 1ts supervision, said apparatue, suits or uniforms to be the property of the :~:o~!:;!~:tiO:~d said ground a to be at the disposal of ARTICLE III. Membership: Seotion 1. All Professors, Assistant Professors, Instructors and students of the University of Utah may becoJlle aotive member s of this Association . Section 2 . All graduatee and former students of the Univereity may beoome assooi ate members of the Association on the payment of the i nitiat i on fee and regular dues. Seotion 5 . Any qualified Jlerson desiring to become a member may do so by paying to the Treasurer an i nitiation fee of 50 cents and by signing t he Constitution. Name : The name of this association shall be the University ot Utah Athletic Association. ARTICLE II. Membership: All students, tormer students, members of the instructing force, and alUlll1li may become members on the payment ot the annual fee of $1.00. ARTICLE III. Officers: Section 1. The officers ot the a s sociation sball consis~president. vice-preSident, secretary, a treasurer, and an executive oommittee consisting of the above-named ofticers, the Director of Athletios in the UniVersity, one representative from the faculty, one representative from the alumni, and four additiooalmembers elected trom. the members of the association. All these officers shall hold office for one year, or until their suocessors sball be elected. Six members of this committee present at a regular meeting shall constitute a quorum. of the executive co.m.mittee. Section 2 . The preSident, vice-president, and secret~lhavetheusualpowersandperformthe usual duties of such officers. Roberts ' rules of order will govern . Seotion 3. The treasurer shall have oharge ot all D1oney~tor8tbletiopurposesishallcollectall assessments; shall payout 00 money except on reoeipt of an order signed by the president and two other members ot the auditing committee. At the February meeting, and at the spring and fall meetings called tor that purpose, and, if requested, at any regular meeting, t he treasurer shall submit a clear and explioit statement of the financial standing of the association. Seotion 4. The executive oO.l!Ullittee shall have general supervision and control over all atbletic affairs ot the University; shall have entlre oontrol ot the raising and expending ot money tor athletic purposes; and shall have the right to delegate such of its power as it may deem wise to standing committees. During intervals between meetinga of the association,it shall have and exeroise all powers of the assooiation. Section 5 . The executive co.m.mlttee shall select trom their members an auditing co.m.m1ttee of three members, including the president or tbe association, who shall audit all bills and accounts of the association,and sball pass upon voucbers of tbe managers or tbe several departments. Section 3. The entire oontrol of athletios,except where~herwise provided for in this constitution, shall be entrusted to the committee on athletics , which shall oonsist of five members--three under-graduates elected by the student body on the first Fridsy in February; one representative of the ~'aculty, who shall act se treasurer of the committee, snd shall be apPointed by the President of the University. Student Manager of Athletics. The Stu.dent Manag~hletics sball receive his instructions from the Athletic Council . ARTICLE IV . Officers: 'i'he officers shall be: a President, a Vice-President , a Secretary, s Treasurer. and an Executive Committee consisting of the above named of~!:~~~ a~~~n:ive additional meJllbers selected from the Section 1. The Preaident shall preside at all m.eetings ortlii"Tssociation, and shall decide all questions of parliamentary law that may arise: he shall to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and rules governing the Association. Section 2 . The Vice- President shall in the absence ofthe~tperformallthedutiesofthatoft1cer . Section 3 . The Secretary sball keep a record of all proceedings of the Association and attend to all oorrespondence of the Assooiation and shall also be the secretary of the Exeoutive Committee . ARTICLE VII: Each club or teaJD b e long Ing to the Association shall be entitled to a representation of one (1) member on the Executive Committee. ARTICLE VIII: Amendments; The Constitution can be amended only by a tbree-fourths maj or! ty vote of' all members present at any meetIng of' the Association calle d tor that purpose, providing that the amendment be submitted in writing to the b;xecutive COl!lmittee at least one week before the t1m.e of' cs.l11ng s a Id meeting. Section 2. The President shall call a special .meeting upon the written request ot at least one- tnird ot the members ot the Association or when he h1.m.selt .may deem. it necessar y. providing that notice ot such .meeting be posted at least twenty-four hours before such meeting is to take p l ace . Section 1. Each member shall pay to the Treasurer a .monthly assessment of ten cents . Section 2 . AssesSlllents will be delinquent on the 10th o~nth and it not paid to the Treasurer of Association within ~ tive days after ' becoming delinquent. t he delinquent member shall be suspended until all dues are paid in full, and sha l l not be recognized as a member of this Association nor entitled to the privileges there:::t: ARTICLE III. Property : No person sball be permitted to appropriate to his own use any of the property belonging to the Association wi thout paying full va lue for said property . ARTICLE V. Games: No challenge to play any game shall be valid or accepted except by consent of the manager of t he particular club challenged, approved by the Executive Committee and signed by the President otthe Association. The following amendments to the Constitution and By Laws were adopted on Monday October 11, 1897. Section 1 and 2 of Article II of the By Laws reads: Section 1 . Assessments may be levied by the Executive C~to the extent of 25 cents during each semes t er when necessary to ra ise funds tor the Association. ~r:~~r~ . assessments must be levied by the Associ a t ion as Section 2 . Non- payment of any assessment properly levied~wo weeks of first notification shall oonstitute forfeiture of membership . ARTICLE V, Section I, reads: Tbe President shall preside at all meetings of t he Association, and at all meetings of the Executive Committee . ..
