Show Coach Ike Armstrong instituted the Sorority Relays in 1926 . They Vlere to be a means of arousing interest in track . The enthusiasm. w~s more than the coach had ar,ticipated . These rel(.ya were to be the climax of the spring inter- class track meet which is held annue.lly . The r ace i3 for ons helf mile and the te31:ls are composed of four men , generally two sprinters and two weight men , each man running 220 yards . C"lpt£iJ;s are cllOsen by the coach and t hey select their team from the squad members . The sorority they are to represent, and '~hose colors they wear , are chosen by drawin3 from a hat . The teems are generally divided into two groups of runners and the winners are those who make the fastest time . Interest has grown so much in these races t hat they in themselves are attractive enough to d r aw larCl:e crowds .
