Although cadets of the four classes drilled primarily in tactical batteries this year, the battalion and regimental organization was necessary for purposes of dismounted drill. The Utah R. O. T. C. unit was given a rating of "Excellent," the highest possible score, by Brigadier General Casper Conrad in final inspection on May 8. Cadet Colonel Stanford Rossiter commanded the Regiment, aided by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel John E. Morris and Cadet Captains R. Whitney Groo, Don L. Cotterell, Clayton A. Becker, Lawrence Sentker, and Herman Meuron. Commander of the First Battalion was Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Melvin Lakness, assisted by Cadet Major Douglas E. Reese, Cadet Captains Bert Nash and John Lorenz, and Cadet First Lieutenant Raymond Welch. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel R. L. Doran commanded the Second Battalion. Cadet Major J. E.
