Show brought about a marked improvement." Bank, Swartz, Hisgen, Sather, Cannon ?Otmij OjjjjicQU....... . Marked improvements in military activities were made in the Utah R. O. T. C. Regiment this year. Major Carl C. Bank, in replacing Major James E. Gillespie as P. M. S. &T., introduced new ideas into theory and practice of army work, the most praiseworthy being that of combining students of the four classes into eight batteries for both mounted and dismounted drill Under this arrangement, cadets gained more practical experience in military training. Fifty-eight seniors completed the course of instruction and were commissioned as officers in the Officers Reserve Corps. John E. Morris, Douglas E. Reeve, and Richard T. Benson were recommended for commissions in the United States Marine Corps. Others applied for selection as flying cadets with a view toward entering the Army Air Corps. Major Bank was aided by five assistant professors: Captain Charles H. Swartz, Captain Karl W. Hisgen, Captain Peter Sather, Captain Robert M. Cannon, and Captain Fay W. Lee. 256 |
