Show MOCTOBER 18.-Although stronger and more experienced, the Colorado College team was out-generaled and defeated by the Crimson eleven, with the close score of 7 to 6.OCTOBER 24.-As the opening social event of the year-a fair indication of the many enjoyable affairs to follow-the Senior Dance at the Odeon proved a great success.OCTOBER 25.-A chapter of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity was formally installed at the University of Utah, the ceremonies being conducted by Trustee George M. Chandler. Many prominent Betas from outside the state were present to assist in the installation, some coming from as far east as New York and Boston, while California alone sent a delegation of ten men.All preliminaries were held on Friday, the 24th, and on the following afternoon, the assembled Betas attended the Mines-Utah game in a body. In the evening the initiation proper took place, followed by the banquet in the large dining room of the Hotel Utah, which event will long be remembered by the one hundred and four Betas present Dr. W. Smith, Utah, '11One of the features of the evening was the singing of the Gamma Beta chapter song, composed by Lyle Smith, one of Alpha Pi's delegates to the convention that granted the charter. Needless to say, it was a time of rejoicing for the petitioners.OCTOBER 26.-Due to the remarkable team-work of the entire eleven from the Colorado School of Mines, Golden defeated Utah in a one-sided battle.OCTOBER 27.-The Freshman girl, on Pledge Day, can well appreciate and sympathize with the uncertain lover who has so plaintively sung, "Oh I could be happy with either, were other fair charmer not nigh." For on this day, after weeks of "being rushed," she has to decide to which of the rushing sororities she is to pledge her allegiance. The choice is momentous, for each society has so much in its favor and brings so many dear friends. Is it any wonder that for the time she wishes she had been born triplets? At last, however, she decides, and is overwhelmed with congratulations. She draws the199uy |
