The Freshman onrush is bravely met, however, by the combined faculty forces.SEPTEMBER 18.-The Freshmen are again victors in the Flag Rush! Three times they charged the Sophs without effect, then a lull and things looked bad indeed. Soon an intelligent member mounted the shoulders of the Sophs and using their heads for stepping stones was enabled to reach the pole, but was permitted to go no further. Another attempt, and during the breathing spell Miers gained the pole and obtained the coveted flag. The scene of battle then moved to the ball field when a lively entanglement ensued. However, just before the whistle blew, Cort Lynch, Lowel Romney, Earl Wilson and Hugo Johnson won the goal line with their prize.SEPTEMBER 19.-On Friday afternoon a jolly reception for the new students began the "get acquainted" functions of the year. Throughout the halls and the Rest Room, gay with music, sounded cheery greetings to old friends and welcomings to new. The girls of the University were hostesses-the Juniors lavishly dispensing punch and candies, and the Seniors receiving with a smile and a handshake for everyone.aOCTOBER 2.-The staff, which is to pilot the Chronicle throughout the year, is selected by three members of the faculty.OCTOBER 3.-A rousing rally-the first of the year-enlivened and concentrated Utah spirit on the 'Varsity Alumni game, the beginning of the season's many hard-fought football skirmishes.OCTOBER 7.-Campus rules at last! The discussions and arguments of the past two years have finally materialized into a set of rules which should prove a benefit to campus life at the University. The Freshmen will suffer most, for they can no longer "queen" or loiter in the halls and, like the Sophs, are required to wear regulation caps to all athletic contests and on all school days.OCTOBER 14.-The Freshmen "get acquainted" party was a huge success in spite of the pranks of the Sophs. Delicious punch took the place of the stolen lemons and jollity prevailed.OCTOBER 15.-The examinations for the Rhodes scholarship at Oxford University were completed by three candidates; Roscoe Ashworth, Moyer Thomas, and Frank McConnell.
