CO~ITIONB TO BE CONPLIED WITH BY RAILROAD CONPANIES. In the construction of railways through Indian lands a systematic compliance by companies with the conditions expressed in the right-of-way acts will prevent much unnecessary delay. I therefore quote the requirements, which have been stated in previous reports. Each wm-pany should file in this office-- (1) A copy of its articles of inoorporation, d d y certified to by the proper 6ffieers under its eorporete seal. (21 Maps representing the definite looetion of the line. In the absence of any soioial n&vis&ns with reeard to the len-g th of line to be reoresented unon the man; of defioite looation, they should be 80 prepared as to represent section8 of 25 miles each. If the line passes throngh surveyed land, they should show its location eoou-rately ecoording to the seotion.1 subdivisions of the survey; and ifthrough unsur-veyed lend, it should be carefully indicated with regsrd to its general direation and the nat-1 objeets, farms, etc., along the route. Each of these maps should bear the affidavit of the ohief engineer, setting forth that the survey o f a e route of the compauy'8 road from -- to -,a distsnoe of - miles (giving termini snd dirittance), was made by him (or under his direction), es chief engineer, nnder ' suthorlty of the oompany, on or between certain dates (giving the same), and that such survey ia accurately repregented on the map. The effidavit of the obief engi-neer mustbe signed by him officially and verified by the certificates of the president of the company, attested by its searatary under its corporate seal, setting forth that the person signing the affidavit was either the chief engineer or was emploged for the pnrpoae of making such survey, which was done under the sntharity of the oom-pany. Further, thst the line of route so surveyed and represented by the map wwas adopted by the oompany by resolution of its board of direotors of a certain date (.e- ivin-e the date) as the definite looation of the line of road from -to -. a distance of - milea (giving the termini and distanoe), and that the map has been prepared to be filed for the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, in order that the company may obtain the benefita of the act of Congress approved - (giving date). (3) Separate plats of ground desired for station purposes, in addition to right of way, should be filed, and suoh grounds should not be represented upon the maps of definite looetion, but should be marked by station numbers or otherwise, so that their exaat location om be determined upon the mepa. Plats of station grounds should bear the same affidavits and certifiostea ss meps of definite location. All mapa presented for approval should be drawn on tracing linen, the sosle not less then 2,000 feet to the inch, snd should be filed in duplic~te.
