Show REPORT OF THE COMMI8SIONER OF INDIAN AFFAIRS 51 called npon for payment of the annnal tax, at the rate of $15 per mile, for the fiscal year ending Jnne 30,1897. Up to the present time the payment has not been made. From time to time the president of the company has filed monthly reports showing the amount of coal mined in the Choctaw Nation, as required by the act of Congress of October 1, 1890 (26 Stat. L., p. 640). 8t. Louis and Oklahoma City Railroad.-This oompany was granted right of way through the Indian and Oklahoma Territofies by act of Congress of March 18,1896 (29 Stat. L., p. 69). On October 24,1896, the Department approved the map of definite location through the Indian Territory from Sapnlpa, in the Creek Nation, to the west bonnd-ary line thereof, a distance of 41.42 miles. Port 8dth and Western Coal Cornpang.-This company was granted right of waythrongh the ChoctawNation, Indian Territory, byact of Con-gressof March2,1896(29 Stat. L., p. 40). Ou June25,1896, thecompany forwarded for approval a map of definite location of the line of road. The certificates on the map did not conform to the requirements of this office, and on Jnly 29,1896, the map was returned for correction. It has not since been refiled for approval. June 30,1896, the company forwarded a resolution of the board oE directors accepting the pro-visions of the act of Oongress of March 2,1896, granting it a right of way through the Choctaw- Nation, as required by the act. Kansas City, Port 8oott and Mmphis Railroad.-This company was granted right of way through a small portion of the Indian Territory by act of Congress of il1;lrch 28, 1896 (20 Sta.t. L., p. 77). July 27, 1896, the company forwarded, as required by the act, the written con-sents of the councils of the Quapaw, Peoria, and Ottawa tribes to the construction of the road. It was held by the office that the certificate to the consent of the Peoria conncil was informal, and on August 25, 1896, it was returned for correction. The written consent of the Peoria oondcil was again forwarded to the office on January 18,1897. The consent of the Miama council has not yet been filed. Emem City, Pitkburg and Gulf Railroad.-On Jnly 20, 1897, the company filed in the Department a voucher in the nature of a check for $1,911.90 in payment of the annnal tax of $15 per mile for each mile of road constrncted through Indian buds for the fiscal year end-ing Jnne 30,1897. Denison md Korthern Railway.-In oase of this company no addi-tional action has been taken since date of last annual report. (See last .. AnnuaJ Report, page 47.) Kaww md Arkamas Valley Railway.-No maps of definite location of the additional lines of road of which mention is made in the last annual report have yet been fled for approval. On February 6,1897, the Department approved plats of station gronnda in the Creek Nation at Wagoner, Ross, and Inola.
