Show 42 REPORT OF THE - COMMI8SIONER OF lNDIAN AFFAIRS. By an act of Oongress approved July 18,1894 (Public, No. 113, and p. 433 of this report), the St. Paul,' Minneapolis and Manitoba Railzoay Company was granted right of way through the White Earth, Leech Lake, Chippewa, and Fond dn Lac reservations, in Minnesota; such right of way to be 50 feet in width on each side of the central lir~eof the road, with the right to use such additional ground where there are heavy cuts or fills as may be necessary for the coustruction and main-tenance of the roadbed, not exceeding 100 feet in width ou each side of the right of may; also grounds adjacent to such right of way for station buildings, etc., not exceeding 200 feet in width by a length of 3,000 feet, to the extent of two stations within the limits of each reser-vation. No maps of definite location of the line of the road have yet been filed for approval. By act of Congress approved August 27,1894 (Public, No. 220, and p. 470 of this report), the Duluth and Winn6peg Railroad Oompany was granted right of way for the extension of the line of its r0a.d and for a telegraph and telephone line through the Chippewa and White Earth Indian reservations, in Minnesot,a, commencing at some point on its already constructed line in said State and running thence in a gen-eral westerly or ~lorthwesterly direction, by such route as shall be deemed advisable, to some point on the western or on the northern boundary line of the Strtte, between the Red River of the North an8 the Lake of the Woods, or to both such points; such right of way to be 50 feet in width on each side of the central line of the road; and the company is also granted the right to take from the lands adjacent to the line of the road material, stone, and earth necessary for the con-struction thereof; also grounds adjacent to the right of way for station buildings not to exceed in amount 200 feet in width and 3,000 feet in length, to an extent not exceeding one station for each 10 miles of road constructed within the limits of said reservations. No maps of definite location of the line of the road through the reservations have yet been filed for approval. By act of Congress approved August 23,1894 (Public, KO. 200, and p. 407 of this report), the Northern Mississippi Railway Company was granted a right of way for the extension of the line of its road through the Leech Lake, Chippewa, and Winnebagoshish Indian reservations, in the Stmatoef Minnesota, such right of way to be 50 feet in width on each side of the central line of the road; and the company is also granted the right to take from the lands adjacent to the road material, earth, and stone necessary for the construction of the samej also ground adjacent to the right of way for station buildings pot axceeding 200 feet in width by 3,000 feet in length, to the extent of one station for every 10 miles of road constructed through tbe reservations. No maps of definite location of the line of the road have yet been filed for approval. |
