Show Haitht--9 Sunday 31st. Elder I.A. Smith aid us a visit and a ppointed another Bishop, Bro. TTenry Lunt. In consequence of the persecution of our enemies, I solicited to be relea~ed from the Presidency of this ~take, a~ my enemies wwore they would destroy me if they couln get me, and there was little prospect of my being at home much of the time to come to attend to thP duties of my office, accordingly the organization of the Stake was su~tended for the present. August 7th. I again left home with sever ~l of the Brethren went into the mountains, as we heard that our enemies were coming after us. We remained in the mountains until the 4th of September, when we returned home to a t tend to our affairs, as our enemies had given up their efforts to take us for the present, yet continually threatening the destruction of all the faithful Elders of the Church. My health very poor, being troubled with the palnitation of the heart. November 13th. I came very near losing my life by accidentally taking poison, but through the laying oft of hands of the Elders, the Lord restored me to life and health again. December ?th. Attended a supper party at Bro. Elias Morris, with my family. ~Tad a very interesting t ime, the evening was spent in singing, recitations, and speaking of the things of the Kingddm of God. lednesday 14th. I invi~ed in several of my Brethren who had been faithful, and with me had left their homes during last summert with their wives to a supper party. l e had a good time. I relt happy in t· e society of my Brethren, in having them speak and also speaking myself upon the principles of the Gospel. Saturday 24th. fent to Harmony in company with Bishop and other ~rethren to spend the Christmas. Took dinner with Bro. J.D. Lee. In the evening they had a dance. Sunday 25th. Attended a dance in the evening. Saturday 31st. Vent to Beaver on horse back, stayed at Bro Dodges. Attended mee·t in"' in the evening and during the whole of the meeting the neople were annoyed with firing of pistols outside by some unruly boys. Sund .. y, January 1st. 1860. afternoon. Tuesday 3rd. Wednesday 4th. Attended meeting and spoke 1n the Returned to Parowan. Stayed with Bishop \la,.ren. Returned home, having enjoyed my visit very much. |
