Show Haight--7 Monday 13th. Went to Representative Hall. No nuorum present to org~nize the Legislature, so we met and adjourned from day to day until the majority came from the north. Saturday 18th. Members from thA north arrived and organized, and Secretary Hartnett read the Governors message. Legislature adjourned to Salt Lake City to meet in the Social Hall on the 27th, and all started for Salt Lake. Travelled all night, snowed most of the eime. Suffered much ·vith the cold . 19th. Arrived at Salt Creek, quite unwell. 23rd . Arrived at Salt La 1re City. Stayed with Johns . ~miths . Friday 24th. Went up to Farmington to my Brothers, and turned out my mule on the range . In the evening attended a supper party at Bro. Thomas Smiths, and a dance in the evening . Sunday 26th Monday 27th . Came to the city on foot . Legislature met at the Social Hall . January 4th . Had an interview with Doctor Forney, Superintendant of the Indian Officers . The session passed off very agreeable, many good laws were made and some reversed . Good feelings prevailed throughout the session, until the last day. Some excitement prevailed, in consequence of the Secretary refusing to pay the members for their full time . 22nd. Legislature adjourned, not with the best of feelings toward the secretary, John Hartnett . Monday 2,th. •Ve started for home, my health very poor, had a hot fever and head ache . Sundat 30th. Came from Meadow Creek to Beaver, stayed at Bro . Seth Dodges . I was very sick and went to bed immediately. They were very kind, in the evening Bro. Amasa Lyman administered to me, and fever left me . Monday 31st . I rode in a carriage to Parowan, and stayed at Bro . Dames . February 18,9. 'Tuesday 1st. Arrived at home and found my family all well. I was truly glad to get home, weary and sick. After being at home some two weeks I went to visit the settlements south. Preached at Tokerville and Virgin City. Went up the Virgin with Bro. Tenny tp explore for farming land , found a considerable quantity of the best of land and authorized him to form a settlement next fall. 'Vent to ~ashlngton and preached, also to Santa Clara . Found most of the Saints all well and enjoying much of the Spirit of the Gospel . March . I went with Bro. Amasa Lyman south and visited the branches and exploring. Had a good time and enjoyed ourselves very much, was gone some ten days . |
