Show 188 Lieut: We'll put out a dragnet in New York. Dir: Maybe it was San Francisco or L.A. Maybe he went back to Greece. Lieut: We'll dragnet the whole world. We'll get out the F.B.I, and the Marines. We'll get that bastard and break his ass. Because this play, you punk, is unAmerican. We laughed but we were still upset. Amelia and I were really in rapport on this issue, and she wanted to get home and tell her roommate all about it, partly because her roommate had a ticket for the next night and now would never be able to see it. Ben walked along with us, he three or four inches taller than Amelia and with an easy smile and easy talk, sure, he'd go up to her apartment for a cup of coffee, he'd love to. So I went along too, the first time I'd gone up there, top floor on the left. When we barged in Amelia's roommate was in the shower and so we went to the kitchen where Amelia made coffee and we sat at the kitchen table, white enamel top. Amelia and Ben seemed to have an unusual number of things to say to each other. I listened and sipped my coffee. Then her roommate got dressed again, came into the kitchen to say hello and it was Kate. I yelled her name and stood up so quickly that my chair fell over backwards. She was one big smile, and before we could think we rushed into each other's arms and hugged. I was never so glad to see anyone in my life. |
