Show 235 study is being done as part of Ms. Honea's doctoral program through the University of Utah. WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THIS STUDY? If you choose to take part in this study, you will be asked to complete a written survey of questions and then take part in two to three interview meetings with the researcher. The interviews will be tape-recorded. You will complete the written survey before the first meeting. The survey should take less than 30 minutes to complete. The survey will ask personal questions about you (age, education, work, etc), and your health history, and what it is like for you as a family caregiver. Because you will also be asked about your spouse/partner, he or she will be told about the study and will be asked to sign a consent form, too. Meetings with you will be done in person at a place and time that is easy and most comfortable for you and allows for your privacy with the least amount of interruption. The first interview will focus on caregiving for your spouse/partner. The second interview will focus more on you and your health. A third interview may be needed to follow up or make clear any questions the researcher may have. The third meeting may be done by telephone or email if you cannot meet in person. Each meeting is likely to last about 60 minutes, but may vary based on what answers are needed or shared. Each recording of a meeting will be typed out to examine. The findings from this study will be used to form a theory to explain how caregivers take care of themselves. HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THE STUDY? You will be in this study until the last meeting with the researcher is done and there are no further questions; approximately two months. At that time, your part in the study will end. WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF THIS STUDY? There are no expected physical risks to you; however, there could be some strong feelings and perhaps hard topics that could upset you. If you do get too upset by the meeting, it will end. You will be given proper referrals so you can get more help if needed. ARE THERE BENEFITS TO TAKING PART IN THIS STUDY? You are aware that you may not gain anything directly by taking part in this research study, but that the knowledge gained from this study may help others in the future. WHAT OTHER OPTIONS ARE THERE? If you decide not to take part in this research study, this will not affect the care you or your family member receive and will not sway your doctor(s) in any way. This study is only being done to gather information. You may choose not to take part in this study. HOW WILL I BE INFORMED OF ADDED INFORMATION OR NEW FINDINGS? If you wish, the researcher will keep you informed of any new findings discovered during the course of this study. |
