Show I will be working, I am not employed by you, so deem it necessary for me to keep my own judgment and ability to carry out strategy. Otherwise, I'll lose my effectiveness. What I am proposing here is new ground. We haven't any texts to follow or F.S. directives. We will have to rely on the good judgment of all of us, the opportunities available, appropriate media, and reevaluating progress. In the Common Cause Manual this kind of cooperation between agency and public is imperative. And in working this out - no one is ratting and no one is prying. It is a mutual effort for good management of public resources. (I should have said this at the Wildlife Conference!) If you have other ideas or better suggestions, speak up. We'll probably have to explore the idea - and with other people - before you and then I, decide. I will have to do this work on my own - without support from any agency. Else I'll be compromised. This may bea„.difficulty I'll have to think about - because I'm totally frustrated with my job these days and want to quit. But this is my worry, not yours. And, incidentally, Mr. Kimbal, what we are proposing to attempt to do here, may be one of the finest things YOU have done for the Forest Service! I'll call you sometime - after giving you an opportunity to think out this proposal. You may not want me - you may see another kind of person as being desirable - or you may want to change altogether the method I can be used. Above all, now, though, we have to be honest in our uses of each other and each be ooen to ideas and communication with the other. I should like to feel that I could bring up a problem with people on Wasatch Staff, discuss it, evaluate it, defend it, if necessary, and then, feel that its solution had been provided by those involved in this discussion. I would like to feel that I could do this on other Forests, with other staff people, and with BLM people. Yofu all need to remember that I am accustomed to doing this with my husband, with groups of people in our parish, and with other men. (Women are generally less satisfactory, still!) Above all, I'm not proposing to be a nuisance or demanding of time - Whatever you decide, do consider the importance of doing something. positive , and soon. |
