Show Conclusions Technologies exist to reclaim and recycle wastewater from vehicle wash facilities. Water conservation measures have also been developed in recent years to promote more efficient use of water within a given facility. Limited data are available on health risks associated with exposure to reclaimed wastewater from vehicle wash facilities and the effectiveness of individual types of systems for removal of specific contaminants. In addition, the long- term reliability of on- site treatment systems has not been demonstrated under various loading conditions, particularly for treatment of vehicles exposed to winter driving. The cost- effectiveness of water recycling for vehicle wash facilities is strongly dependent on local water rates and wastewater pretreatment requirements. At the present time, recycling systems are not cost- effective within the state of Utah. As water rates increase and if pretreatment requirements become more stringent, recycling in vehicle wash facilities may become cost- effective in the future. • 64 |
