Show supply for 1,610 acres of new land. The project will also provide recreation and fish and wildlife benefits. Storage regulation of flows of Cimarron Creek will be provided by the Silver Jack Dam, principal feature of the project. Released storage water and usable natural flows will be diverted from Cimarron Creek into the existing Cimarron Canal and conveyed 23 miles to the vicinity of the project lands where distribution will be made through existing ditches. Two laterals will be constructed to convey water to lands above those presently irrigated. Construction Activities On October 4, 1966, the Bureau of Reclamation launched construction of the Bostwick Park Project with the award of a $3,539,100 contract to build Silver Jack Dam. The construction contract went to the joint venture of Johnson Brothers Highway and Heavy Con-stuctors, Inc., and D. H. Blattner and Sons, Inc., of Minnesota. Silver Jack Dam, an earth-fill embankment to rise 138 feet above the streambed with a crest length of 1,070 feet, will be built on Cimarron Creek at an elevation of about 8,940 feet. Its reservoir will have a total capacity of 13,520 acre-feet. The contract also includes the construction of a concrete spillway, outlet works, various appurtenant concrete structures, and 1.1 miles of access and service roads. g. Fryingpan-Arkansas Project Although the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project is not a full-fledged participating project of the Colorado River Storage Project because it does not participate in the use of Basin Fund revenues, it could be called a "limited" participating project in the Upper Basin development plan because it does use water apportioned to the Upper Basin by the Colorado River Compact and to the State of Colorado by the Upper Colorado River Basin Compact. This project was authorized by P. L. 87-590, which was signed by the President August 16, 1962. Good progress was made under the jurisdiction of Region 7 of the Bureau of Reclamation on the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project during the period from October 1, 1965 to September 30, 1966. A joint contract was awarded on November 5, 1965 to Colorado Constructors, Inc. and A. S. Horner Construction Company, Inc. for construction of Sugar Loaf Dam and county road location near Leadville, Colorado, with approximately 38 percent of the work finished during the water year. 100 |
