Upper Division States supported this request when testifying before the Appropriations Committees of the Congress. The Congress included $7,500,000 for continuing construction of the Central Utah Project in H. R. 17787, the Public Works Appropriation Bill for fiscal year 1967. The House Committee on this Bill also included the following language in its report to the Congress: "Central Utah Project, Bonneville Unit. - The Committee is concerned that the Bureau in meeting certain emergencies and requirements of other projects allocated considerably less to this project during the past fiscal year than was provided by the Committee, resulting in seriously retarding the construction progress. The Committee has again this year provided an increase over the budget for the project and expects that it will receive its full proportionate fund allocation." Similar language appeared in the Senate Committee's report. Other Congressional committee hearings in which the Commission maintained a primary interest are discussed elsewhere in this report under LEGISLATION. Relief Model The Relief Model of the Upper Colorado River Basin and adjacent areas is available for display at conventions and other public events and has proved to be extremely interesting and instructive in promoting an understanding of the physical and hydrologic problems of the Upper Colorado River Basin and the development of its water and other natural resources. (See last page of this report.) Motion Picture The motion pictures in the Commission's film library continue to be widely distributed. In addition to filling requests for the picture entitled "The Lakes Made For You'' showing the recreational benefits of man-made reservoirs, hundreds of requests have also been filled for motion pictures about Glen Canyon and Flaming Gorge reservoir and other river basin subjects by utilizing films that have been supplied to the Commission by the Bureau of Reclamation, et al. Widespread interest has been created in recent years by schools, colleges, civic clubs, etc., in the benefits of river basin development. Undoubtedly some of this increased interest can be traced to the fact that since the completion of Flaming Gorge, Glen Canyon, and Navajo dams and reservoirs the American public is becoming more aware of the national benefits of man-made bodies of water in the Colorado River Basin and elsewhere. 34 |
