Show [39] August 13, 1951 Memorandum To: Commissioner, Bureau of Indian Affairs Commissioner, Bureau of Reclamation From: Area Director, District 4, Bureau of Indian Affairs Regional Director, Region 3, Bureau of Reclamation Subject: Comparison of the feasibility of the Pumping Plant, Canal, and Diversion Dam alternates for diversion of Colorado River water to the Palo Verde Irrigation District, California 1. Purpose of this Memorandum The conclusions reached in the Project Planning Report No. 3-8b.28-0 entitled, "Joint Report on the Preliminary Investigation of a Permanent Solution of the Palo Verde Irrigation District Diversion Problem" dated March 26, 1947, were not satisfactory to the landholders of the Palo Verde Irrigation District. The consulting engineers subsequently retained by the District to advise on the feasibility of the various diversion means, concurred in the basic findings of the report. However, the farmers of the District rejected the proposed pumping plant solution in a mass meeting held April 14, 1951. Subsequent negotiations led to a request for a restudy of the more likely solutions of the problem, with particular emphasis being paid to objections raised by the District. |
