Show The United States of America, WHEREAS, by the Act of Congress approved July 27, 1866 (14 Stat., 292), and Joint Resolution of June 28, 1870 (16 Stat., 382), "to aid in the construction of a Railroad and Telegraph Line from the States of Missouri and Arkansas to the Pnoific Coast," and to secure to the Government the use of the same for Postal, Military and other purposes, authority is given to the Southern Pacific Railroad Company of California; a corporation existing under the laws of said State, to construct a Railroad and Telegraph Line under oertain conditions and stipulations as expressed in said Act from the City of San Francisco, to a point of connection with the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad near the boundary line of said State, and provision is made for granting to the said company, "every alternate section of public land, not mineral, designated by odd numbers, to the amount of ten alternate sections per mile, on each side of said railroad on the line thereof, and within the limits of twenty miles on each side of said road, not sold, reserved, granted or otherwise appropriated by the United States and free from pre-emption or other claims or rights, at the time the line of said road is definitely fixed;" and WHEREAS; it is further provided in said act "That the word 'mineral' when it occurs in this act, shall not be hel?1 to include iron or coal"; and rfdU&'.S, it hte been shown by evidence filed in the Department of the Interior that the entire line of the oouthern laoifio (?<fcin Line) Railroad and Tele^-ranh from San Jose to the Needles, on the Colorado River, except that portion between Tree Pinos and Alcalde, which was declared forfeited by the Act of September 29, 1890, has been fully completed and equipped in the nanner prescribed by said Act of July 27, 1866, and accepted; and RECORD OF PATENTS i Patent Number * tin JTn all tn ndpmt tljrar pnanHa aijall rmn*.
