Robert G. McNiece, <br> Salt Lake City, Utah. <br><br> Dear Brother: <br> In writing you I forgot to suggest that the friends in Salt Lake City make arrangements to entertain General Eaton during his stay among you. You probably know some families that will find it convenient and pleasant* to entertain him for a week or more at a time. Try and keep him as long as you can ( I believe he has engagements in Atlanta in November). During his present stay push clear** College* matters. It might** may* be convenient for the friends of the enterprise to have a few private* teas at which General Eaton could** can* meet socially with different parties whom it is desireable to interest. I would also suggest that you* formulate during his stay, plans of action, for in General Eaton you have a man of the largest experience in establishing institutions of learning in the country***. I doubt, if his equal in this respect is living on earth. He has had the forming of scores of institutions where his work was done so quietly that his hand did not appear to the public. In this letter to Robert G. McNiece, Sheldon Jackson refers to Dr. John Eaton's upcoming visit to Salt Lake City, Utah, and asks Mr. McNiece to make arrangements for Mr. Eaton to stay with a few families during his trip. He also suggests that Mr. McNiece bring up college matters with Mr. Eaton and to seek advice on establishing institutions. |
