Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.

Christian Endeavor Dep't.
EDITED BY CHAS. T. HAWKES.
[Contributions to this department will be welcomed at any time, and should be sent to the above, care Geo. M. Scott & Co., before Tuesday morning of each week.]

Prayer Meeting Topic for Today.
"The proof of our allegiance to Christ." I John 4: 1-21.
The allegiance that Christ demands of his followers is not that of a conqueror, nor alone the work of our hands, but loving heart service.
"Love is the fulfilling of the law" and "perfect love casteth out fear."
Two things are necessary to full proof of loyalty to Christ: "If ye love me, keep my commandments" and "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
"True hearted, whole hearted,
faithful and loyal,
King of our lives, by Thy grace
we will be."
For the Juniors:-"What are some kind things we might do to help others?" I John 4: 11-13, 16, 20, 21.
The same thought is carried out in the Junior topic as in the Young People's, that of loving service to others "for the sake of Christ and in His name." Thus can even Junior boys and girls become truly great.

Guilds or Christian Endeavor Societies.
And now come the Methodists of England, apparently dissatisfied with the Christian Endeavor Society, establishing Wesley Guilds among their young people. It is interesting to note, however, that this plan of using Endeavor methods and ways, without adopting the name, is not to the entire satisfaction of the young people themselves. The Congregationalists, on the other hand, are changing their long-established guilds to Endeavor societies, believing it to be "to the advantage of the societies, the churches and the young people."
The Irish Methodists show better judgment, we think, than their English cousins. A letter from Ireland says: "The Irish Wesleyan Methodist church has practically decided to adopt the Christian Endeavor Society as the official young people's movement of the denomination, instead of a Wesleyan Guild. The feeling against a strictly denominational title is very strong indeed." Good for them!

On to Boston.
The California delegation to the International convention will pass through Salt Lake the first week in July and desire any who may be going from this region to join them here.
They will spend part of a day here in going - to see the lake, etc., and will spend a Sunday with us on their return.
The present plan is to hold a union meeting on the latter date and listen to a report of the convention, fresh and inspiring, such as only those who had been there could give. It will surely be a rare treat and we can promise our guests they will be well received.
All who intend to go should at once address the Excursion and Hotel Manager for Utah as below:
Chas. T. Hawkes,
Care Geo. M. Scott and Co.,
Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Local Union Delegate
Ought to be:
1st. One who believes in union work.
2nd. One who attends the meetings of the Executive Committee.
3rd. One of the most practical members of the local society.
Ought not to be:
1st. Selected after all the useful members have been assigned to other duties.
2nd. One who has an "ax to grind" or a hobby to ride.
3rd. Surfeited with other Endeavor work.
There will always be room on the Executive Committee of the Christian Endeavor Union for desirable exponents of Union principles. Why not select such to represent your society?

Facts and Fancies Gleaned from Pres. Clark's Address at Ogden.
The California Convention called together nearly 7,000 young people for its closing consecration meeting and made a deep and lasting impression upon the city of Sacramento.
"Christian Endeavor is the same everywhere because embodying the one desire and purpose of making this world a better place to live in-a part of the kingdom of Christ."
The latest figures give a membership of about 2,385,000 in between 39,000 and 49,000 societies.
A certain society in the Arco (India) mission of the Dutch Reformed church exacts weekly reports from its committees. How would that strike Americans?
Southern California expects to send 300 delegates to Boston this summer.
Utah delegates to the Boston Convention were promised from seats even if the whole Utah Union should go.
The first Chinese society was organized in 1885. The first signer of the pledge was a Mr. Lee who recently said the purpose of Christian Endeavor was "to drive the Devil out."
"The great International conventions show the world that the Gospel of Christ is not losing its power, and that there is no magnet so strong as the cross of Christ."
"Christian Endeavor means a life of service for every member of every society."
Australia contains many hundreds of Episcopalian Endeavorers.

|
