Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.

Among the Churches
OF SALT LAKE CITY.

FIRST CONGREGATIONAL.
Mr. Hawkes will preach next Sunday in this church.
We lose many of our young people the coming week. Many who are teachers are going away for the summer. Miss Clarke leaves on Wednesday for her home in Olivet, Mich., where she will stay this summer; Miss Alta Wiggins will spend her summer in California; Miss Payne goes to Europe for a year, and Mr. Smith will spend the summer there; Miss Porter goes to her home in the east and will not return; Miss Flanders and Miss Osterberg start on Monday for Chicago where they expect to spend the summer.
The baccalaureate sermon preached by President Warren this morning is the beginning of the commencement week exercises of Salt Lake College. On Thursday evening, June 20th the commencement exercises will be held in this church.
What a beautiful custom it is to have one Sunday a year set apart for the children, when the service is carried on by them and when their happy presence pervades the whole church. And what a fitting accompaniment are the flowers; for are not these young lives pure and sweet as the flowers themselves, wholly unsullied as yet from contact with the world? It does the older hearts good just to see the children.
Everyone who was present at the Children's Day exercises last Sunday will agree with this.
The program itself was just long enough. The children all did very nicely in their various exercises. The recitations were good.

CENTRAL CHRISTIAN.
During the past week the church held three prayer meetings and those who attended them pronounce them most excellent. Two of these were cottage prayer meetings, and were particularly enjoyable. There was no formality in them, but earnest prayer and the spirit of true devotion.
The social element was a charm to these meetings. In our workshop and service we should not forget that God made his social beings and that he expects us to use these elements in our being for glory.
Several of our girls and boys won honors in their school work during the past year. Quite a number of them graduated from the various public schools and were given certificates entitling them to enter the High School in September. These young people ought very soon to make themselves felt in our church work. The Endeavor society furnishes a splendid field for the exercise of their gifts and talents.
Each brother and sister who can come to the lecture on Tuesday evening, should do so. The tickets are only twenty five cents each, and this money will be used to meet obligations of the church. If all come, and each one brings a friend with him we shall have a good house. It requires a little work on your part to make a success of this effort. The subject of the lecture is "The Experience of a Tramp."
Miss Mary Cauffield expects to spend her vacation in the mountains near Mercur. We are sorry to give her up even for a few weeks, but we hope she will enjoy this change in scene and life, and that she will come home in September greatly strengthened, and blessed. The Juniors will miss her, but we will do our best to give them a good leader.

FIRST BAPTIST.
Last Sunday was a great day. Dr. MacArthur, of New York City, who is on his way around the world preached a powerful sermon in the morning to a full house. The Sunday school following registered 203, with 72 in the primary department. This is the highest mark we have ever reached. At the Sunday school exercises in the evening every seat and chair was taken and the people were standing out into the street.
Miss Lillie Jackman has recently opened a studio at No. 41 State street in the Physical Culture Building. Miss Jackman is a thorough and successful teacher of the art of piano playing.
If the adult department of our school kept pace with the primary we would have the largest school in the city. As it is, we are a close second. The graduating exercises of the primary class last Sunday evening were unique and interesting.
The financial exhibit of the church for the last five months will be presented next Wednesday, evening. Let us all come and counsel together. Careful attention to these matters now will save us from future embarrassment.

Burlington Branch.
The Burlington Endeavor society have plans nearly perfected whereby they hope to pay off the debt on the chapel property. The friends in the neighborhood who cannot do much themselves doubtless can think of some former acquaintance who will be pleased to lend a hand. Five hundred dollars will be a big lift for a society of twenty members. Who will give them a start?

|
