Show THE CHURCH REVIEW. <br><br> Iliff League Notes. <br> Since last report the League has been instrumental in doing very effective work for the Master. 16 conversions is the result of last week's efforts. Glory to God for that. The week closed with our usual prayer and fasting. The 9 o'clock service in the morning for men was very helpful. The 10:30 a.m. service for the League was especially helpful; both these services conducted by our pastor. Then the ladies meeting at 3 p.m. closed the week most fittingly. Sunday at 7 a.m. the Leaguers were out in good numbers to the "Holiness meeting" at brother Segnor's at the rear of the church, and what a glorious time we had for the little sacrifice of getting up at that early hour; this Sunday morning we meet again at brother Segnor's and next Sunday morning at brother Kendall's, corner First and N street. Come and get a blessing from the hand of the Lord. Our pastor was with us last Sunday promptly at 7 a.m. New converts daily; keep up a mighty faith and earnest prayers. <br> Salt Lake City. <br><br> Five Choice Entertainments. <br> Edward B. Warman the noted educator will be in the city for the next two weeks and will give his series of interesting lectures and entertainments, at the Y. M. C. A. parlors, beginning Monday evening. The first subject will be, "The Delsarte Philosophy of Expression." This lecture is of a high order and is illustrated with specially prepared charts. No charge will be made for admission the first night. Tuesday night at the same place "Practical Delsaric." Thursday night, "The True and False in Elocution " Friday night, a "Reading and a Rendering of Poe's Raven." The following Monday, an art gallery of Word paintings. Tickets for this entire coarse of excellent entertainments for sale at the Association office. Endorsements from Y. M. C. A. in all parts of the country, indicate that Professor Warman is a man of rare ability, and that large and representative audiences have greeted him at all points. Remember that the lecture tomorrow night is positively free. Every reader of this should avail himself of the opportunity. <br><br> A Lecture. <br> On Monday evening, April 1st, Rev. W. B. Mucklow, of Salina, Kansas, will deliver a lecture in the First Congregational church for the benefit of Phillips church. This lecture entitled, "Modern Babylon or Mighty London" will be superbly illustrated with 120 stereopticon views and scenic effects selected by the lecturer during ten years residence in London. Mr. Mucklow will use his own powerful lime light, a better lantern than ever before seen in this city. The lecture has been delivered in nearly all of the large cities and every where it is spoken of as the best lecture on London ever heard in America. Notice that this is not a mere magic lantern but rather a work of art such as the public here have but few opportunities of seeing, ranking with Stoddard's great lectures. <br> All English people will naturally desire to attend this lecture, but Americans cannot afford to miss it because of its educational value. Admission twenty-five cents. Children under twelve fifteen cents. <br><br> Ladies Auxiliary. <br> Owing to the C. E. convention in Ogden, on the fist Wednesday in April, the regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Y. M. C. A. will be held on Monday, April 1st 3 p. m. A full attendance is desired as there are matters of importance to be considered. <br><br> MISCELLANEOUS. <br> (From the Ram's Horn.) <br> "The W. C. T. U. of Alabama is working for the passage of a general prohibition law." <br> Hon. Henry G. Davis, formerly United States senator from West Virginia, offers to give $50,000 and a site to found an industrial school for girls." <br> "The Hon. Joshua H. Marvil, governor of Delaware, and the Hon. D. H. Hastings, governor of Pennsylvania, are both members of the Methodist Episcopal church." <br> "The Congregational Sunday school and Publishing Society has founded 5,000 Sunday schools since 1883. From these beginnings have grown 500 Congregational churches." <br> "The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church has issued over 5,000,000 pages of missionary literature during the last year. It has 6,128 organizations with 153,503 members." <br> "The Methodist Episcopal church has had forty-two bishops since its organization 111 years ago. Four of these have been missionary bishops. Bishop Asbury held the office 32 years; Bishop Hedding, 28 years, and Bishop Morris, 38. Bishop Bowman has held the office 23 years." <br> "Eighteen years ago Peter B. Brigham, a native of Vermont, gave $1,000,000 for a free public hospital for Boston, to bear his name, on the condition that the bequest should remain untouched and draw interest for twenty-five years. When it comes available, seven years hence, the trustees will have nearly $3,000,000 in their hands." <br> What the church needs is not better preaching, but better practice. <br><br> |
