Show THE CHURCH REVIEW.

W. C. T. U. News.
OFFICERS.
Mrs. W. H. Tibbals, President.
Mrs. G. S. Peyton, Vice President.
Mrs. E. E. Shepherd, Recording Secretary.
Mrs. Burner, Corresponding Secretary.
Mrs. H. W. Brown, Treasurer.
Place of meeting: The Lecture Room of the 1st Pres. church.
Time-3 p. m., Thursday.

Confined at home for several days with a terrible pain throbbing through my temples, though obliged to keep quiet, yet I could not keep from thinking. A little story kept running through my mind, of a father and his little son who went into the field one beautiful summer day for rest and recreation. The father soon laid himself down under the shade of a beautiful tree and went to sleep. The little boy busied himself gathering flowers and bringing [them] to his father. Finding him asleep each time he gradually wandered farther and farther away. Finally when the father awakened he could see nothing of his boy in any direction. Thoroughly alarmed he rushed hither and thither in search of him. Not very far distant he found a frightful precipice and looking over he saw, to his horror, the torn and mangled form of his beautiful boy. Oh, what an awakening that was?
It seems to me that about five-sixths of us are in the condition of this father, sound asleep while our boys and girls are continually falling over the precipices of evil all around them, and being mangled body and soul. Oh that fathers and mothers would be awakened to the necessity of warning their children of the evil that surrounds, them ere it is too late.
We have been holding social purity mother's meetings and they have been intensely interesting, but, from the small attendance one would think there was no need of such meetings. Of the need of these meetings we feel fully assured, however, by recent terrible affairs that have been brought to light in our city. But the indifference! How can these mothers be awakened to the fact that there are "licensed wrongs in our crowded streets waiting for the coming of the little feet."

Our petitions are being circulated, quite a number of the leading Mormon women taking hold with us. We have been held back by various circumstances until it is pretty late, but we will do what we can.
Salt Lake City.

HEATH M. E. CHURCH.
Our quarterly conference convenes on the 9th.
Reports from pastor and different officials of the church, showed that the Sunday school, Epworth League and affairs of the charge in general were in good working order.
Brother Iliff preached on Sabbath morning following, to a good audience and communion services were held, followed by love feast in the evening.
The platform temperance meeting on last Sabbath evening was a success and all felt greatly encouraged with the number of prohibition sympathizers that were present.
The Epworth League Literary Society is now organized and in good working order.
We are glad to know that all our sick folks are able to be out again.
Our much talked of concert is now an assured fact; it will take place at the church on Tuesday evening, March 26th, do not forget the date. Come to the corner of 3rd south and 8th west and ''follow the crowd."
Salt Lake City

PEOPLE'S GOSPEL MISSION.
Eighty six present last Sunday at the Sunbeam Sunday school. There is a demand for teachers. Consecrated men and women may find work here that will tell in eternity.
Tuesday night there will be a special service at the Mission for the benefit of the "choir." Volunteers from the Y. P. S. C. E. of the First Congregational church and others, will insure an enjoyable evening. The collection will be for new choir books. If you have not been to the mission for sometime, come Tuesday and you will come again.
The magic lantern, street work is like the measles, catching. During the week there was good attendance and good attention. The average boy is there in full force. Who knows but what they may learn "the old, old story." On Thursday night there will be a special temperance work and all who want to speak on temperance will please be in attendance. Here are a few views for night work: Temperance, Scriptural, Historical, Pathetic, Beautiful, entrancing and convincing. There is room for many more singers for the open air. Will yon come and help "roll the chariot along?"
The mission is very grateful for all the help furnished in the past. Many contributions have been sent in, which have enabled us to do much for the suffering. We need more money for the work and those who desire to add their name to the list will please let us know.
The first Sunday in April will be Children's Day, when there will be a pleasing program at 3 p.m.
J. B. L.
Salt Lake City.

"A hospital in memory of the great explorer and missionary, David Livingston, has been established at Dartford, England. At the laying of the corner stone the address was made by Henry M. Stanley."
"No man has any trouble in pleasing God who loves his neighbor as himself."

|

This page has a section for the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, which is followed by two articles and two quotes. Under the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, there is a list of officers, an article about parents needing to warn their children of wrongdoings and dangerous acts, and a note on a circulating petition for prohibition. The next article is for the Heath Methodist Episcopal Church and is about a quarterly conference, the condition of the church's organizations in general, church services, a temperance meeting, the Epworth League Literary Society, and an upcoming concert. The final article is about the People's Gospel Mission and its Sunday school, fundraiser for new song books, a temperance meeting, and a Children's Day program. At the end of this page are two quotes, one reporting on a new hospital in England and the other being about loving one's neighbor. |
