The selfless kind of unknown, the kihd of work that didn't ever get any attention from anyone that was unappreciated generally by everybody that was looking for something spectacular. So he was a very modest •.• He was very modest, unassuming and lovable person. And this of course is a thing that questions the gift of •.. and people could see it. VM: You made a special point to make a study on what Father Collins, what •.. give me a brief biographical sketch of Father Collins, the man and the things that he did while in Guadalupe Mission? FM: Father Collins was from Albany, New York. He didn't have any family around. He seemed to have two things that he worked at intensely. One was the summer school program. Probably every kid in the neighborhood in that and until the day, when the summer was through, instruction, games, sports, contests, films, anything he could do to make it more interesting, attractive. VM: When did he, when did he begin afterwards with this? FM: He started in 1930. Before him there had been several Spanish speaking priests. Of course, shorter periods. There were a couple from Mexico and there were Galvize, Father Galevize. Two brothers were here because of the revolution. Father Collins was living at the cathedral and he was charged with |
