Show The following is an interview with Emilio Jaime Vasquez , conducted by Vincent Mayer, in Granger, Utah, on February 28, 1971. VM: "Tell me Mr. Vasquez, where and what date were you born? EV: I was born in Eureka, Utah, January the 28th, 1931. VM: What was the name of your parents? EV: My Dad's name was Narciso Solice Vasquez • And my mother's name was Trinidad Enr{quez. VM: Where were your parents from? EV: My father was, as far as I knew, he was from Malfas, Texas. And my mother, she came from Sonora, Mexico. VM: When did they move here to Utah? EV: They came here about nineteen-eighteen. VM: And what type of work did your father do? EV: My Dad did a lot of farm work in Texas land, cotton, picking cotton. Then he came to Utah and he did some farm on sugarbeets. VM: Did your father ever tell you how many other Mexicans were involved in this sugarbeet harvesting. EV: There was quite a few families that was brought in by the church. VM: The church. EV: The church had brought them in. VM: The~ Mormon church hncl brought Lhnm in. EV: Paid their ways in from ah, Colorado, over Colorado this way. |
