Show INTERVIEW: Emilio Jaime Vasquez Page 23 EV: there are some that---that do vote. I myself when it---when it's time to vote I tell my wife, 'Well, let's go. 1 And we vote. I make a habit of that. But I can't really say that I've seen a lot of Mexican people that, that flood these voting places. VM: How about---how about up at Kennecott? Are the Mexicans up there, say, more prone to vote, than just say people working at other jobs? EV: Well, some of them there at work, I usually talk to some of them about it, you know. They don't care to vote. VM: The same thing? EV: Yes, they just want to live alone, you know, work and be left alone. That's the way they want to be, most of them. You know, they don't like to bother. Mostly it's all because of the lack of education, and they don't speak a very good English, probably. VM: Yes. You mentioned during the war they brought in a lot of Puerto Ricans. EV: Yes. VM: How have they gotten along with, say the Mexicans?
