| Abstract |
Huff was born in West Valley City, Utah. He discusses his family, growing up and schooling. He joined the Marine Reserves, went to boot camp, and trained as an infantryman. He was called up for active duty shortly after September 11, 2001. His unit was sent to California for a year of training before being sent to Kuwait, then later Baghdad. He discusses the experiences and conditions there. He relates his combat experiences, missions and activities. He also talks about returning home and continuing his reserve activities, relating various training missions and other activities. He completed his enlistment in the Marines, and got a degree in philosophy from the University of Utah before joining the Army. Interviewed by John C. Worsencroft. 64 pages. |

Show THIS IS AN INTERVIEW WITH BRENT HUFF ON OCTOB R 20 2009. H INTERVIEWER IS JOHN C. WORSENCROFT. THI I THE VI TH LEGACY ORAL HISTORY PROJECT. TAPE No. IA-15 AND I -17. JCW: This is John Worsencroft and I'm sitting down with Brent Huff. It's October 20, and it's about five o'clock in the afternoon. Brent, why don 't you go ahead and introduce yourself and tell me a brief biographical of when you were born, where you were born, those kinds of things. BH: Brent Huff. I was born in West Valley City, Utah. Grew up in West Valley. Graduated from high school in West Valley and went to college for a year down at Snow College in Ephraim, Utah, before joining the military. Basically I was going to go on a mission, I was raised Mormon, but after a year of college I wasn't so sure I wanted to do that. JCW: What were you studying down there? BH: Just generals, just kind of the first year of an associate's. Mostly backpacking and rock climbing, stuff like that. JCW: You were raised Mormon. Was your whole family Mormon? BH: Yes. Really typical Mormon family. JCW: So they were all active and everything? BH: Yes. Just my parents and my sister. My sister and I are adopted, but from birth. JCW: Did you end up going on a mission? BH: No. I came back from my first year of college and kind of sat around for a year while all my other friends went on missions. But after going to college for a year and just kind of starting to develop the way that I think, anyway, I wasn't so confident.
