| Abstract |
Robinson (b. 1923) recalls her childhood in Wisconsin. She was a student at Carroll College in Waukesha when Pearl Harbor was attacked. She went to Milwaukee and worked in a defense factory, then enlisted in the Marine Corps, women's reserve. After boot camp at Camp LaJune, North Carolina, she went to Norman, Oklahoma, for aviation machinist mechanical school. She sailed aboard the SS Lurlene to Pearl Harbor, where she was crew chief on an SN-J or AT-6. After returning home in 1945 she attended the University of Wisconsin on the GI Bill. 49 pages. |

Show LORRAINE J. ROBINSON LORRAINE: I was in high school . school . JULY 10 , 2001 I graduated in 1941 from high WIN: In June . Did you feel that y ~ ur childhood was fun and enlightening and enjoyable . LORRAINE: Yes . I think from my childhood , t oo , I was always interested in the family , really interested . I r emembe r going down to my grandma ' s . I must have been twelve o f thir te en or something , we drew out her family tree , you know , and I still have that . WIN: Oh , you do? LORRAINE: Yes . WIN: So you worked out that part of your family in a famil y group sheet sort of thing at that time . LORRAINE: I didn ' t know about family group sheets then . WIN: So you just [did what]? LORRAINE: After this I am going to the genealogy library a nd put some names on a disk . WIN: So that interest has been with you sinc e you we r e a child . LORRAINE: Yes . I believe , I really believe , well , I didn ' t join the church until I was about fifty , I guess . But I believe I was just plucked out of tha t family to do this , t o do the genealogy . WIN: That ' s the Church of Jesus Christ o f La tte r-d a y Saints? LORRAINE: Oh , yes . Greatest thing tha t ever happened to me . 11 |
