| Abstract |
Robinson (b. 1923) recalls her childhood in Wisconsin. She was a student at Carroll College in Waukesha when Pearl Harbor was attacked. She went to Milwaukee and worked in a defense factory, then enlisted in the Marine Corps, women's reserve. After boot camp at Camp LaJune, North Carolina, she went to Norman, Oklahoma, for aviation machinist mechanical school. She sailed aboard the SS Lurlene to Pearl Harbor, where she was crew chief on an SN-J or AT-6. After returning home in 1945 she attended the University of Wisconsin on the GI Bill. 49 pages. |

BOB STACK IS PRESENT . THIS IS FOR THE SAVING THE LEGACY PROJECT: AN ORAL HISTORY OF UTAH 'S WORLD WAR II VETERANS. WIN: This is an interview with Lorraine J . Robinson . Today is the lOth of July , year 2001 . We are at the American West Center Offices on the campus of the University of Utah in the Annex Building . Today with us is Bob Stack . Bob do you want to say hello? BOB: It is nice to be here , and thank you Lorraine for allowing me to sit in and do this . WIN: We need to get Bob ' s voice , in case he says something, then the transcribers will know what that is . Lorraine , when and where were you born . LORRAINE: I was born in Edgerton , Wisconsin , July 12 , 1923 . WIN: Who were your parents? LORRAINE: My parents were Roland Alexander Turnbo and Inez Adeline Lanora Strummand Turnbo , quite a lingo . WIN: Did you come from a line of Norwegians? LORRAINE: I am five - eighths Norwegian and three-eighths Scotch. Turnbo is a Scottish name , and my father is three - fourths Scotch. WIN: Had your parents been in Wisconsin long?
