Show THE CHURCH REIVEW.

Christian Endeavor Dep't.
EDITED BY CHAS. T. HAWKES.
[Contributions to this department will be welcomed at any time, and should be sent to the above, care Geo. M. Scott & Co., before Tuesday morning of each week.]

Prayer Meeting Topic for Today.
"Everything for God," Luke 14:25-33.
There are many professing Christians who, being unwilling to give up everything for God, lack the entire consecration, necessary for whole-hearted and acceptable service. "Whosoever of you that forsaketh not all that he hath he cannot be my disciple." How weak and unfruitful we are in the Christian life because of sin. We give the Lord a certain portion of our lives, but also attempt to carry with us the hindering weight of some cherished habit of the past, which is contrary to God's law, and turn back periodically to wallow in the mire of the old deceitful life. We shall never know the full blessedness of a life of service until we are able to say with all sincerity and from the heart.

"I belong to Jesus;
I am not my own;
All I am and all I have
Shall be his alone.

I belong to Jesus;
He is Lord and King,
Reigning in my inmost heart
Over everything."

Junior Topic:
"What does the Bible teach about riches?" I Timothy 6:6-11, 17-19.
In this material age the desire for wealth, and the attainments of its accompanying social position has become to intense, that boys and girls need much instruction and warning concerning the use of riches, and the Bible is our best text book.
The, children of God are "heirs of the kingdom," and should strive to "lay up treasures in heaven." The right use of wealth may bring great blessings, both to the possessor and those in need, but "the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" and the heart is apt to be where the treasure is. Earthly riches are fleeting, and all too often bring with them worry, care and anxiety, until they verily become a burden. With Solomon we offer the petition. "Give me neither poverty nor riches ...lest I be full and deny thee...or lest I be poor and steal."

Come!
Every Christian Endeavorer in Salt Lake City is expected to attend the social to be held in the First Congregational church, Friday evening, March 15th. If absolutely impossible to be present you are to send a written excuse to this committee, the excuse to be read aloud to the assembled Endeavorers on Friday evening. Each one who reads this will please consider it his special duty to speak to the President of their own society about having it announced and talked up in their meeting Sunday evening, March 10th. Now do not forget it. We are going to have a rousing good time and do not want one of you to miss it, so come and get enthused for our convention.
Socially Yours,
LOCAL UNION SOCIAL COM.
Salt Lake City.

social at the First Congregational church.
On Friday evening, March 1st, the Christian Endeavor society of the First Congregational church gave a social in the church parlors. There was a good attendance and we had a delightful time. A part of the evening was given up to charades, which furnished amusement for all. Seven minutes were devoted to a "Mum Social," at which everyone was required to "keep mum" or pay a forfeit. We observed a great many ladies handkerchiefs among the forfeits, and judging from the redemption price set upon them by the judge, they must have been heirlooms for several generations.
Refreshments were served after the fun. It was a delight to all of us to have so many friends and strangers partake of the good things prepared by the social committee. w. M. H.
Salt Lake City.

SEVENTH ANNUAL
or "Members' Convention" April 2nd and
3rd, 1895.
Rates.
Conference rates to Salt Lake City, a fare and one fifth for the round trip from all other points to Ogden, and a $1.50 rate from Salt Lake City ought to catch every Endeavorer who wants to attend the convention.
The railroads have agreed to make the rate to Ogden from Salt Lake City for the convention one fare for the round trip, in case we use a hundred tickets over the same road. That will make the round trip ticket $1.50. This is certainly a very satisfactory concession, and will insure a large representation from here.

A Geometrical Construction.
Get out a map of the United States, draw a line following the eastern boundary of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico, and you will cut off a section comprising a little more than one third of the entire area of the country. From the north-east corner of Montana and the south-east corner of New Mexico draw diagonals of this section. They intersect in Utah, about Salt Lake City as center, with a radius equal to the distance from that city to the north-east corner of the section named describe a circle. The circumference will pass through the south-east corner of the section, and will include the whole of the section except the north-west corner of Washington, which is mostly water anyway.

A Mathematical Problem.
How much would it cost a Christian Endeavorer to make the trip from any point in the section described above to the '95 convention at Boston and return, counting time, railroad ticket, berth and meals en route, hotel bill and incidentals? How many of you could raise the amount? Bring your answer to the convention, and we shall there decide what we are going to do about it. R. J. C.

|
