Fungus horizontal, beneath porou Without stem, powdery, smooth, with veryfine pores. a DESCRIPTION. Tus fungus is sessile, horizontal, consisting of a hard woody substance like a horse’s hoof; the upper side is smooth, but having circular markings, or ridges: the under sideis flat, white, yellowish, full of minute pores. HISTORY. greater weight, dusky colour, and mucilaginous taste void of bitterness. The medullary part of this fungus, beaten soft, and applied externally, has been much celebrated as a styptic; aud arterial hamorrhagies, without the use of ligatures. Several English surgeons have published cases in which the agaric was successfully used, as Sharp, Warner, Gooch, and others. It is best when gathered in August or September. THE END.
