Show RHUBARB. RHUBARB. Macerate the rhubarb in a close vessel with the water for twelve hours; then add the spirit, and strain the liquor. , This appears to be one of the best preparations of rhubarb Digest for seven days, and strain. Dose half an ounce as a purge, or two drachms as a stomachic. 414 more when designed as a purgative; water extracting its virtue effectually than either vinous or spiritous menstrua. is from half a drachm to two drachms. Ruavsars Wine. The dose Comrounn Tincture or Ruvusars. (Tinctura Rhabarbari Composita. L.) Take of rhubarb, sliced, two ounces; liquorice root, bruised, half an ounce ; (Vinum Rhei Palmati. E.) ginger, powdered, safiron, each two drachms ; Take of rhubarb, sliced, two ounces ; canella alba, bruised, one drachm; —— diluted alcohol, two ounces ; Spanish white wine, fifteen ounces: Macerate for seven days, and strain through paper. Wine or Ruvsare. (Vinum Rhabarbari. L.) Take of sliced rhubarb, two ounces and a half ; lesser cardamomseeds, bruised and husked, half au ounce ; — saffron, two drachms ; — Spanish white wine, two pints ; — proof spirit, half a pint: Digest for ten days, andstrain. This is a warm, cordial, laxative medicine. It is used chiefly in weakness of the stomach and bowels, and some kinds of loosenesses, for evacuating the offeuding matter, and strengthening the tone of the viscera. It may be given in doses of from half a spoonful to three or four spoonfuls or more, according to the circumstances of the disorder, and the strength of the patient. Tincrure or Ruvusars. (Tinctura Rhei Palmati. 1.) Take of rhubarb, sliced, three ounces ; lesser cardamomseeds, bruised, half an ounce ; diluted alcohol, two pounds and a half : Digest for seven days, and strain through paper. Tincture oF Ruvusars. (Tinctura Rhabarbari. L. D.) Take of rhubarb, cat into pieces, two ounces; lesser cardamomseeds, bruised, half an ounec ; (liquorice root, bruised, half an ounce, D.); saffron, two drachms ; proof spirit of wine, twopints: Alb distilled water, one pint ; proof spirit of wine, twelve ounces, by measure: Digest for fourteen days, and strain. Dose half an ounce, as an aperient. Tincture or RuveArs wit ALoEs, COMMONLY CALLED Sa- crep Enixirr. crum. HK.) (Tinctura Rhei et Aloes, olim Elixir Sa-- Take of rhubarb, sliced, ten drachms; socotrine aloes, in powder, six drachms ; lesser cardamom seeds, bruised, half an ounce; diluted alcohol, two pounds anda half: Digest for seven days, andstrain through paper. Dose half an ounce, as an aperient. Tincture or Ruvgars wits GentiAN, FORMERLY Bitter Tincrure oF Ruvpars. (Tinctura Rhei et Gentiane, olim Tinctura Rhei Amara. E.) ‘ Takeof rhubarb, sliced, two ounces; gentian root, sliced, half an ounce; diluted alcohol, two pounds anda half: Digest for seven days, and strain through paper. Half an ounce as a purge, or two drachmsas a stomachic. All the foregoing tinctures of rhubarb are designed as stomachics and corroborants, as well as purgatives: spiritous li- quors excellently extract those parts of the rhubarb in which the two first qualities reside, and the additional! ingredients considerably promotetheirefficacy. In weakness of the stomach, indigestion, laxity of the intestines, diarrhoeas, colic, and other similar complaints, these medicines are frequently of great ser- vice, |
