Show -5- THE CENTER FOR RESEARCH LIBRARIES Growth Continues The Center's membership list continues to grow and it is now a 91-member consortium. Latest full-member additions are the University of Arkansas, Rice University, Southern Illinois University and Windsor University. The latter two institutions were formerly Associate Members and their full-membership indicates that their library holdings now exceed 500,000 volumes and that they have spent an average of $200,000 per year for the last five years for library books, periodicals, other materials, and binding. Full members have two representatives on the Center's Council, while Associate Member institutions have no representation. The University of Utah is a full member. Israeli Materials Government Documents The Center is receiving on a current basis, by purchase, or gift (and has been since 1955), the more important government documents from Israel, Included in this selection are the parliamentary proceedings and most statistical publications. None are cataloged and entered in the Center's catalog, but all are arranged on the shelves by main entry and are fully available for use. Marriott Library3s Interlibrary Loans Office can contact the Center for faculty or students desiring an item which might be thought to be in this category. Newspapers The Center is currently acquiring all newspapers which are a part of the P.L. 480 program and which have been microfilmed by the Library of Congress through 1967, plus continuations by the Jewish National University Library 1968+. The Library of Congress hopes to extend its filming of these titles back to 1964 (the beginning of the P.L. 480 project in Israel) and the Center intends to acquire a positive print from all such negatives as soon as they have been made. Check with the Marriott Library Interlibrary Loans Office for a list of the Israeli newspapers the Center is currently receiving on microfilm. Modern Poetry Collection Microfilmed The Center has recently completed microfilming the modern poetry manuscript collection of the State University of New York at Buffalo. The collection contains manuscripts, worksheets, letters, etc., of twentieth century poets writing in English, and is particularly rich in manuscripts of James Joyce, William Carlos Williams, Robert Graves and Dylan Thomas. The card catalog of the collection and the special catalog of the Joyce collection were also filmed. A positive print of the 119 reels of the collection, plus 12 reels of the catalog, are available on loan from the Center. Journals Project The Center's project to expand its acquisition of currently-published journals, as the beginning of what, hopefully, will sometime become a truly comprehensive national lending library for journals, is proceeding as fast as possible. Foundation support for the project has been requested and the Center is now waiting for a response, which is expected shortly. |
