Description |
On April 3, 1836, Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, claimed that he received a revelation in the Temple at Kirtland, Ohio. Part of this revelation consisted of a visitation from Moses who gave to the Mormon prophet the authority to commence gathering Israel from the four parts of the earth. Believing as they did that their church was a restoration of all things formerly spoken of by the prophets of old, the Mormons held the belief that they were the modern counterparts of ancient Israel. |
