Oh why should I leave thee and cross the deep sea, To a strange land far distant Scotland from thee. lovely How pleasant Thy s we e t to view blooming are mountains and hills, thy heather and far famed bluebells. The Scenes of my childhood where in youth I have strayed, With my faithful companions, my dog crook and plaid. Oh, Scotland, my country and land of my birth, In fondness I'll ever remember thy worth. For Why in thy bosom my forefathers sleep, then should I leave thee and cross the wild deep. wrapped But why should I linger or wish for to stay. The voice of the Prophet is "haste, flee away.
