Including his own salary, the aggregate annual pay roll i3 $36,230.00. This would ' F" '' :. make the cost of school and administration salaries, for the -. y 1134 Indians in the jurisdiction, a trifle over $30,00 per capita, per annum. Thia amount is; considerably lower than the average • of the cost of administration in the Indian Service. In my judgment, however, it yet Is too high. It happens, however, that the conditions in tho Uintah Basin, not only are extraordinary, but are absolutely unique, In toe Indian Servico. It would scarcely be possibla for Superintendent Knaala, or for an^othsr Superintendent'confronted with the same propositions, to reduce materially the administrative cost of tho Agency. After the settlement of the. water Question in that Basin, however; it ought to be possibla easily to reduce the cost of administration to i §25.00 per capita, or even less than that. i ;. o To . - Herewith is submitted'a list of th? employees cf the Uintah L, l s L o I . i , , - y . , , . *. w , :' • . -r- i '-, .
