Show 214 JACK MARYIN For Complainant ( R. Vol. 3 - pp. 526- 532.) He resides at Farmington, New Mexico and is 76 years old. He moved into Farmington in 1890. R. 526- 527. ( Discussion by Counsel R. 527- 528.) He is familiar with the San Juan River from Pine River Largo down to Cudahi, about eighteen miles below Shiprock, also the vicinity of Mexican Hat, having been with the Reclamation Service. In 1918 he left Shiprock with Mr. Smith and Reclamation party. R. 528- 529. He crossed the river and travelled by team overland to Monumental Valley. He crossed the San Juan River at Bloomfield on a boat once, but did not attempt a boat down the river. He has never heard of Indians using boats on the river in the vicinity of Farmington. Mr. Smith was taking elevation for the Reclamation Service to see how high he could get the water, out of the San Juan River and how much land it would cover. He was also with Kenneth Sawyer up the river hunting dam and reservoir sites in the same work and for the same ditch or canal. Further Examination -( R. Vol. 3 - pp. 531.) The party was on the south side of the river going down o Mexican Hat on the Navajo reservation and were attempting to day out ditches through the reservation. They were not figuring on dam sites in this lower region but expected to put a dam site on the San Juan and Colorado. Mr. Smith told him that the project had been favorably reported and was one of the finest proposition that he had ever seen or been on with the government. R. 531. |
