Show 172 state and part that is suitable to the development of grain is near the Colorado [ State] line; all along there for twenty or twenty five miles wide and is located east and north of Bluff. There are large sections of excellent grazing land there. R. 380 " Q. Right up to the Colorado River? " A. Well, gets pretty rough. One of the witnesses here can tell you more than I can about that; he has run cattle in there near the river. " Q. Of course, there are sections that are not so good, but there are other sections that are good that come right up to the Colorado River, isn't that, true, up and very close to it? " A. Just taking a guess at it, I wouldn't think it was much good for anything." R. 380. He has not been up and down the Colorado River between its confluence with the Green and its confluence with the San Juan Rivers. He has only crossed it in every way he could between Moab and Lees Ferry but has never navigate it either up or down and has never lived close to the river. R. 381. He has lived in Blanding for ten years and prior to that he lived in Bluff for over forty years. In his fifty years experience, he believes, that he has crossed the San Juan River below Bluff hundreds of times, principally near Bluff and where the canyon boxes up. R. 382. rom a point fifteen miles down the river below Bluff to the confluence of the San Juan and the Colorado Rivers he has crossed the San Juan River nearly every place he could get to the river on horse back. He was in the country looking after cattle and trading with the Indians. He principally grazed cattle about fifteen miles below Bluff but some of his cattle would go on over. |
